Contemporary dance combines the technique of Ballet, Lyrical and Modern dance to create dynamic choreography which tells us a story and expresses emotion. It is often described as a style of dance that allows freedom of movement and is unpredictable. The main principles learnt in contemporary class include; balance, breathe, contraction and release, tension and relaxation, fall and recovery & emotion.
For students to really benefit from Contemporary it is recommended they also take Ballet. Contemporary dance includes a lot of floor work and therefore may not be recommended for students with knee or back injuries.
