Welcome Miss Elena Fey

Our Showtime family was incredibly happy to meet our newest family member Elena Fey Rogers after Miss Miranda gave birth in April!  Miss Miranda is one of our longest running students here at Showtime and teaches our students in various styles including jazz, tap and hip hop. Miss Miranda was also our very first Student of the Year in 2004. We are so excited to introduce Elena and can’t wait for her to follow her mum’s footsteps here at Showtime. Congratulations Miss Miranda & partner Kaleb!

Dancing With The Stars Competition

In the early months of the year Showtime students got the opportunity to be involved in Channel 10’s TV show competition, filming and submitting a fun and creative dance video cheering on our favourite competitor Angie Kent!

Angie has starred in various reality TV shows including Gogglebox, The Bachelorette, and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. Our students used this as inspiration to create a relatable and entertaining video for Angie. We also learnt of Angie’s love for dogs and her foster care of numerous pups, so we even let Max, Ms Rita’s dog join in on the fun in our video!

Angie loved our video commenting “Go Girls!!! I Love this” on our Instagram page and also sent an additional message complimenting our cute Max and expressing her excitement to see the full video! Our students had lots of fun, experiencing new levels of creativity and involvement in the Australian Dance TV show, Dancing With the Stars!

End Of Year Concert – SMIA Awards Night

Showtime HMS wrapped up 2019 with two huge concerts on Saturday 21st December.

Themed as a music awards night our audience members were VIP guests at the SMIA (Showtime Music Industry Awards). Who would be the best dressed star on the red carpet? Which great artists will win an award? All was revealed throughout our concert hosted by our musical theatre student Alexis.

It is such a pleasure to see how much our students enjoy being on stage and performing for their family and friends. Showtime staff love to see how students develop and improve their performance skills and confidence throughout the year and shine on stage.

Congratulations to all performers and staff that helped put on such a wonderful show. We now take a well deserved break before commencing for an even bigger year in 2020.

Junior Awards: Zoey B, Maggie G, Bayleigh B, Isaiah G & Htee Moo Wah H (performance award).

Senior Awards: Braydee A, Ciara-Mae N, Dylan R, Joanne M & Elliana A (performance award).

Christmas Pageants 2019

On the 6th and 7th of December a group of Showtime students had the chance to dance in the Armadale and Alinta Perth Christmas pageants. All dressed up in Christmas colours, sparkly green, red and candy cane costumes, our students danced down Jull Street in Armadale and St George’s Terrace in Perth with big smiles. We would like to congratulate our students on how well they danced in both pageants and represented Showtime HMS.

Kingsley Primary School Fair 2019

On the Saturday 2nd November a group of Showtime students performed at the Kingsley primary school 50th anniversary fete. Students performed a mix of routines from earlier in the year. Congratulations and well done to all students who participated and danced with large smiles while having lots of fun, as well as continuing to represent Showtime HMS to an excellent standard.

State Dance Association Exams

At the beginning of 2019 Showtime HMS  had introduced both ballet and jazz State Dance Association exam classes into the timetable. These exam classes included new material and techniques being taught in preparation to the students’ exams in term 4.

The exam classes required attention, dedication and practice. In class the students learnt a number of exercises, theory, correct terminology and short dances which they had to memorise completely for the exam. Students who were in these exam classes weren’t forced into participating in the exam, so if they felt that they weren’t ready they can remain in the same grade and participate in the exam the following year.

However, those students who were ready to complete their exams had mock exams which helped prepare the students for the real event which was just a few weeks after the mock exams. These mock exams helped students understand how the exam would work and outlined exactly what they knew and what needed some improvement in class before the actual exams.

Mock exams were spread over a few days and were held on Monday 2nd, Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th of September.

The actual State Dance Association examinations were run over two days, Friday 18th and Saturday the 19th of October where they were assessed by an SDA examiner.

A huge congratulations to all student who participated because not only did all our students pass, but everyone received a result of commended (65%) or above.

Kwinana Dance Festival 2019

The Kwinana dance festival was held over the October school holidays at the Koorliny Arts Centre running from Saturday 28th September till Sunday 6th October. With entries from many students we are proud to see the hard work and dedication displayed in everyone’s performances. We love seeing the students get up on stage and perform their solos or duos and give it their best and represent Showtime HMS. Congratulation to everyone.
